All around great choice to get up to speed with Visual Basic .Net

This book is an all around great choice to get up to speed with Visual Basic .Net and .Net programming in general. I got the Kindle version of this book about month and a half ago and I have been reading it off and on. The book covers most relevant aspects of the .NET framework and VB including core programming concepts (data types, conditions, loops, functions, etc), security, file manipulation, databases/SQL Server, LINQ, graphics, localization, printing, licensing, windows online, application deployment methods, etc, etc.
There is so much in the 25 chapters of this book that will take time to go over and learn, although some things didn’t seem relevant for my needs, like graphics and licensing for example, I am still glad they were included for completeness. I wish the book and the project included things like how to use cloud services (Amazon, Azure, other cloud services, etc) from VB .Net in some way.
The book comes with the code of real life application that is used through out the book as means of applying what you learn in each chapter. I downloaded it but I never used it, at least not yet. I am somewhat familiar with programming as I work in IT but I am not a developer, I have a small VB .Net project in mind for work so I am using the book as a reference for concepts and examples. I have other books in .Net programming including C# but I feel like I am more familiar (and less intimidated) with VB .Net.
The book is well written, interesting and even fun to read (if that can be said of a programing book). I will give 4 stars to this book at this time, I might have to come back and update it later after I look at the included code and I complete my project. Definitely a good book to have.

This is a very good book on VB 2015

This is a very good book on VB 2015, but not for the beginner. If you are a real beginner you might want to look at "Visual Basic in Easy Steps" first. I do a lot string (text) processing and I wish he would have put some information about the StringBuilder Class which speeds up the processing of strings. VB executes as fast as C#. Some C programmers may what to stay with C#. For those who want to understand the syntax of both VB and C# you might want to get his book, "C#-Visual Basic Bilingual Dictionary".

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a wider coverage some more helpful code not covered in other VB 2015 publications. The author breaks up the hum-drum of drilling down the lessons with a little humor too which is good.
