WOW, WOW, WOW!

Hello Eugenia,

I just finished reading your book. Absolutely brilliant. I felt spellbound for the first time in years. I read for three days, riveted the whole time. The only frustration was having to put the book down and make food, in order to keep reading.

I loved it so much. I was captivated by the story, the characters. At times I cried and laughed. So much wisdom, knowledge and energy came forth. The specific, detailed descriptions were astonishing. I loved the flow, back and forth through time and the way the chapters were laid out. I kept asking myself, how in the world did you write this? Did you go back in time?

I loved the way each character was developed, described and given strength or otherwise. It was so beautiful how they pledged their lives to serve the cause.

Thank you so much for your diligence and perseverance to make this a reality for us readers. I must say I was amazed with myself in sticking with each chapter and actually finishing the whole book. That in itself is most unusual. It felt quite effortless, like I was carried along by the energy. I did intend, focus and follow through. What a completion. I am so happy to have read this. Thank you again and again for triggering memories and stirring the fire of awakening and self-responsibility. I am still processing. I haven't been out of the house in 3 days. So I need to take a walk.

I loved this book!!

From the first page I was hooked. The plot was immediately intriguing. The characters are developed in a rich, descriptive way such that you can easily step into their psyche. Each of them personifies a different perception of viewing the world, each living their own truth based on their own level of consciousness, An unusual, fascinating read, at 409 pages, I so did not want the story to end!

The author's technique of dipping in and out of different timelines must trigger different synapses in the brain as I found my dreams while reading the book taking on unusual themes and feeling more potent than normal. A sense of deja vu could occur while reading certain passages in the book.

Although "The Secret of Sekhmet" is very different than the author's metaphysical self-help books, I have to believe it is encoded just as her other two are. The book is encouraging subtle changes to our consciousness as we read this intriguing mystery. Because of the author's skill set much more is going on than we realize. Because of this I intend to read this book again soon, certain that new spiritual insights will bubble up from its pages.

I didn't want the story to end! The imagery of Egypt was incredible. Historians, archaeologists, scientists would love this book. This is a trip into ancient times with the bonus messages for consciousness. Absolutely wonderful!

About the Author
No writer is more quintessentially American than John Steinbeck. Born in 1902 in Salinas, California, Steinbeck attended Stanford University before working at a series of mostly blue-collar jobs and embarking on his literary career. Profoundly committed to social progress, he used his writing to raise issues of labor exploitation and the plight of the common man, penning some of the greatest American novels of the twentieth century and winning such prestigious awards as the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. He received the Nobel Prize in 1962, "for his realistic and imaginative writings, combining as they do sympathetic humour and keen social perception." Today, more than thirty years after his death, he remains one of America's greatest writers and cultural figures.

Still true today - unfortunately

I picked up this book at a sale and was intrigued by it right away. It was written in 1966 and the photos are so interesting to look at. But, the best part - every single one of his essays in the book is still relevant today. Which is not a good thing. It really made me stop and think about how far we haven't come as a nation - even though we think we're leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. We are a selfish group of people, we contradict most of what we say and do, and we are blind (or look the other way) to many of our actions.
I really was appalled by the truth in which he spoke. I have a new found respect for Mr. John Steinbeck - not only as a writer, but as a politically aware individual.

an unusual and excellent steinbeck resource

this is an interesting and unusual compilation of Steinbeck's periodical writings, otherwise not readily available, which I found to be very insightful regarding the Salinas community's odd dislike of Steinbeck. While the Grapes of Wrath were hardly boosterism for California growers and law enforcement, some of these articles are almost rabid in their intensity and even more poignant in their journalism. This is a really useful resource for anyone interested in getting a wider sense of Steinbeck's thinking and development.

A Denslow classic

Dover Books has been reissuing the works of W. W. Denslow, famed as the original illustrator of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Denslow's Mother Goose is an excellent example. The first Dover Denslow book to be issued in hardcover, it contains children's rhymes illutsrated in Denslow's best style, in large size. The text was hand-lettered by noted type designer Fred Goudy. Though there are a few instances of politically incorrect imagery (only one, really: Robinson Crusoe's man Friday, and not such a bad carcature at that) the book is funny and light, just right for reading to children.
I hope that this lavish edition is proof that Dover is having success with their Denslow reprints, and that many more will follow. Highly recommended.

A Wizard of Oz

Dover Books has published a beautiful reproduction of a nearly forgotten classic by the original illustrator of The Wizard of Oz.

W. W. Denslow provided the colorful illustrations for the first edition of The Wizard of Oz in 1900. He and L. Frank Baum, the books author, believed that children's books should be colorfully illustrated and focused on entertainment rather than moralizing.

Their first success was in 1899 with Father Goose: His Book. That proved to be the best-selling children's book of 1899, and prompted them to follow it with an even more elaborate book for 1900. Baum's fantasy novel, handsomely complemented by twenty-four color plates inserted into the book, and text illustrations printed in two colors throughout was the most elaborate children's book published in America up to that time.

The success of these new color-illustrated entertainments led both men to pursue careers focused on handsomely produced children's books. Baum stayed on in Chicago for a number of years, producing numerous books, but Denslow had moved on to New York and pursued his own projects. He maintained a similar philosophy of creating entertainments with no moralizing, and printing technology kept apace with his vision.

The original 1901 edition of Denslow's Mother Goose was astonishingly colorful, and his adaptation of the Mother Goose rhymes was aimed at at American children. The book was reprinted by its original publisher, and then later by a Chicago company, but it has been out of print for decades.

The Dover Books edition, a splendid, full-color facsimile, permits twenty-first-century readers to appreciate Denslow's brilliant work.

This book was hard to get through. It seemed to drag in places and was hard to follow until a big explanation was given by the Doctor at the end. I didn't care for the disgusting forms of the aliens. The ending somewhat redeemed it.

Mises' position as one of the great pioneers in the development of the aeronautical sciences lends a flavor of authenticity not found in more conventional textbooks. Any student who has made himself familiar with his exposition of the fundamentals and applications will have acquired an excellent background for additional, more specialized fields of modern aeronautical engineering.

Theory of Flight: The Fundamentals of Aeronautical Design

To say the text is a classic work on the subject is an understatement. It offers a lucid introduction to the many concepts of aeronautical design that traditionally challenge students. It is a required text for those wishing to advance their understanding of theoretical aerodynamics and its profound implications toward applied aircraft design. Though prerequisite knowledge of aeronautics will augment the text, none is assumed by the author and the mathematical derivations presented within are complete. Most of the empirical data and equations are still quite valid although the text was printed decades ago, before aerodynamics attained its current level of analysis. Anyone involved in the development of subsonic conventional aircraft will want to add this to their research library as a valuable reference.

Great comprehensive intro to aeronautical engineering

This book is unlike any on its subject I have ever encountered. Even though the author of this book passed away in 1953, it has a clearness and depth directed towards understanding the essentials of flight that make it a worthwhile - and very inexpensive - read today. Of course, to supplement this book, given the progress made in the field since the author's death, you'll require several textbooks.

Part one is entitled "Equilibrium and Steady Flow in the Atmosphere". Chapter one of that section, though correct in its physics, is simply not applicable to high-speed or turbine-powered aircraft. The other chapters in part one, though, are a great introduction to the dynamics of incompressible fluids that are still completely relevant.

Part two is entitled "The Airplane Wing", and contains material that the author not only expertly compiled, he actually contributed much of this material to wing theory himself. Again, you'll need supplementary material to be current on this information.

Part three is entitled "Propeller and Engine". Where propellers are still in use, the information in this book is correct. The basics on the airplane engine are here, but again time has marched on as to the forefront of technology.

Part four on "Airplane Performance" talks about performance problems in propeller planes. You'll need other material to understand how the jet engine affects performance.

Part five on "Airplane Control and Stability" contains great sections on the theory of non-uniform flight and also a very clear introduction to the theory of dynamic stability. Information on automatic controls is missing, though.

I'd say read this book and use it as a reference as a basis for understanding the mathematics and theory of flight. Use it as a firm foundation for learning about the more modern aspects of the field. One thing I really appreciated about this book is how it is essentially self-contained. The author develops the mathematics as needed, and it is generally well-illustrated, which is generally not a feature of older engineering textbooks. There are problems at the end of each chapter. Unfortunately, though, answers are not included. It is definitely geared for the upper-level undergraduate engineering student that has already finished physics, calculus, statics, and dynamics. Highly recommended.

Classic Book, in depth analysis, relevant and useful

Dover books are typically designed to last and this is no exception. Much of the work behind Theory of Flight came before World War II, materials and technology substantially advanced since then. However, the detail and depth of understanding offered by this book is definitely worthy of consideration. One may read it without plunging into the calculus but to really understand it, if you aren't fresh (in a year's calculus) bring a college calc text for company. That said, the scope of this book is relevant for modern subsonic airplane engineering and design. Upcoming drone or UAV model builders can gain insight for practical application from this book but should be aware of its limitations in the lower Reynold's number or slower speed and smaller aircraft specialization.
