A must read! Family, faith, forgiveness, love and great sex! Lots and lots of great sex!!

This review contains no specific spoilers. Phoenix Reborn (The Phoenix Chronicles part 3) is a triumphant celebration of family, forgiveness, and, most of all, love.

For new readers, I highly recommend The Phoenix Chronicles, of which this, Phoenix Reborn, is the third and final part. The author provides new readers with needed details into each character’s past for the challenges and issues faced in the Chronicles to make sense and be successfully resolved. (On a personal note, I can’t imagine reading the Phoenix Chronicles without immediately wanting to know the detailed backstories of these wonderful characters! See my other reviews for more details on those.)

For CJ’s long-time readers (since the very first introduction to the Phoenix Club with Abel (trilogy, or in 3 parts), Phoenix Reborn is the perfect culmination of everything that came before. Fans following the series from the beginning know the deep, heart-breaking, heart-wrenching, sometimes violent, often brutal, lives of these characters, and have been with each as they have been able to rise above their pasts.

For all readers, love continues to bloom, acquaintances have grown into friendships, and new characters have become full members of the Phoenix family. And when three of them hatch a plan to help one of their own heal – WOW! CJ Bishop excels at balancing multiple plots and a multitude of characters. Whether making lunch or making love, every scene moves the story forward. And real-life details (such as popping the top off a Snapple) help me, as a reader, sink further into the characters and their stories.

In a busy life, pulled in many directions, I love a book that makes me laugh, cry, and lose track of time without regretting it after and Phoenix Reborn does exactly that and more. Above all, Phoenix Reborn, left me smiling. I’m sad that this is the end of the core series (although I’m hopeful we’ll see more of these characters!), but I’m feeling the love of each couple, and believing in their happily ever afters, and this is why I read romance novels! And, BTW, did I mention that there’s smokin’ hot sex and lots of it?!?!

Truly wonderful. An incredible story to add to the series. Hopefully not the last!

Every one of the books in this series is a true gem. They are intense, loving, compassionate, sensual stories that were well-written and detailed, suspenseful and filled with passion -- passion for truth, justice, and true love .

A quick review of this series would never do them justice and I prefer not to "tell" too much and give the storyline away. SO the best thing I can say is READ them. Every one in order and you will not be disappointed. They are not light reads, they are emotional, intense, complex and steamy. Each character brings his own special element and you will find yourself rooting for them all. The "Phoenix boys" are a true family made up of strong, intelligent, loving and heroic men. There wasn't any battle they would not take on for one another - physical, emotional, even financial. They are fierce protectors and even fiercer lovers.

This particular book was an all-encompassing and wonderful way to bring all of their stories full circle. But yet there is still certain elements that can be expanded on in another series -- hint hint. I am sure all of the faithful readers would love more.

Beautiful! Loving! Smoking Hot!

After reading the Phoenix Club series followed by this Phoenix Chronicles series, I am at a loss...........I so very much want more! I would love to read about Clint/Axel, Nick/Christian and Maddy/Savannah! And I would also love to see if Cochise has a story. This series took me up, down, way down and soaring. These books are well written, hot, emotional and renews my faith in humanity (even if it is fiction). I'm new to the M/M genre and I am hooked. Thank you CJ Bishop for these lovely, warm, inspiring stories. I thought I would need a box a tissues just for Max and Horatio - I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that they got their HEA after all of those years. Can I just say that Gabe/Cole make me wish I were a gay man.........If you want a fantastic series, these books are for you.

fantastic (& I generally don't like these kinds of books)

While i like the idea of "helping myself", self-help books have always turned me off. Books i've read seem self indulgent, with the author telling you how awesome they are, all these amazing people they've helped, and how once they share their secret with you everything is going to change, blah blah blah.

maybe it just happened to find me at the right time in my own journey, but i loved this book. It talks in a very clear and straightforward manner about how to simplify your life, your thinking, and your purpose to cut out all the extraneous "stuff" that continually distracts us and focus in on what's really important. People and things (like email!) continual to swirl around us, competing for our attention. When we let them have our attention without being thoughtful, they fill up your life instead of YOU filling up your life and deciding for yourself what your priorities are. It also makes the very commonsense point that when we have 15 different priorities, we have no priorities!

Read this book. I felt like it was a great use of time, it had a lot of important things to say, and it was concise in how it said it.

Good read, too long

This is a good book that encourages readers to focus on what truly matters and ignore the rest. It's definitely written for knowledge workers in high paced careers; it often feels as if the author is unaware of other lifestyles. At a minimum he rarely addresses how to apply his methods to them. Though I firmly believe in what he describes as essentialism, the examples he provides are often unconvincing. He will support an assertion he makes by quoting a random executive in two or three lines who testifies how much this mindset shift helped her business. I always want him to dig deeper. The author never examines the opportunity cost of moving to focusing on the essential and minimizing damage to ones career as you do so. He offers pretty blind faith that "it will all just work out" and that as you focus on what matters your managers respect for you will grow. Perhaps this is true over time, but implementing the authors advice is difficult and he does not devote nearly enough time to this topic.

The book is also longer than it needs to be--a long blog post could cover everything just as well as this book--but the topic is important enough to overcome the author's wordiness, business school jingoism, and occasionally unrealistic starry eyed belief that this method always works. The truth is it usually does, and the attentive reader will find a great deal of useful frameworks to apply to her or his life.

How To Live Essentially

Doing more by doing less is a seductive concept. But is it possible? Yes, says this how-to manual on essentialism. The formula for doing more by doing less is to discern what is absolutely essential, eliminate the rest, and get those things done with as little effort as possible writes author Greg McKeown. McKeown is CEO of a strategy company in Silicon Valley, co-created a course at Stanford titled "Designing Life, Essentially" and speaks at companies including Apple, Google, Twitter, Facebook, Salesforce, and LinkedIn.

This book may not be for everybody. If your life is manageable, filled with satisfying activities, and you're progressing at the pace you want, you may not need this book. But for those who feel overloaded, distracted, stuck in the mire of doing a lot but not progressing on what matters to you, you might find it of interest. Although there are time and life management books by Stephen Covey, Brian Tracey, Julia Morgenstern, David Allen etc., this book approaches life management from a fresh angle: essentialism. It is filled with contemporary examples which are relevant in 2014.

Four E's constitute the process of essentialism says McKeown: Essence, Explore, Eliminate and Execute. The goal is to do less, but better writes McKeown. It's a disciplined pursuit of less he writes. "If you don't prioritize your life, someone else will," McKeown says. He recommends asking yourself continually: "Is this the very most important thing I should be doing with my time and resources right now?" Or, to discern what is essential to you, how about this question: "If you could do one thing with your life right now, what would it be?" The aim is to live by design, not default. You practice distinguishing between the trivial many and the vital few.

Under the umbrella of each of the four E's of essence, explore, eliminate and execute, McKeown lists mindsets and actions to live more essentially. Take execute, one of my favorite sections, McKeown outlines: buffering - prepare contingencies and expect the unexpected, subtracting - bring forth more by removing obstacles, progress - the power of small wins which harnesses the power of steadiness and repetition, flow - capture the genius of the best routines, focus - figure out what's important now and be - the essentialist life of more clarity, more control, and more joy in the journey.

Threaded throughout are abundant examples of individuals who live by the principles and actions described in this book. Warren Buffet seems to practice essentialism in his approach to investing about which Buffet says humorously: "Our investment philosophy borders on lethargy." Doing more by doing less. There's the example of business prophet Peter Drucker who is quoted forecasting: "In a few hundred years, when the history of our time will be written from a long-term perspective, it is likely that the most important event historians will see is not technology, not the Internet, not e-commerce. It is an unprecedented change in the human condition. For the first time - literally - substantial and rapidly growing numbers of people have choices. For the first time they will have to manage themselves. And society is totally unprepared for it." This book offers ideas on how to manage yourself and what is essential to you.

Clarity = success promises this book. It makes sense that if you practice essentialist principles, it will revolutionize your life. You will create more of what you want, and eliminate more of what you don't want, enabling you to do more by doing less. This is life transforming, and one of the best books I have read recently in which the message is potentially life-changing. Like the book's design, too, with the jazzy black and white graphics.

We have read this several times over!

Do your children know that Christmas was a rescue mission so that people could be friends with God? Through this Advent storybook, you can introduce your little ones to the loving God, the Savior of mankind, and the meaning of His birth. 25 engaging 1-minute stories, spanning the entire Bible, will make sharing the true meaning of Christmas with your little ones a simple and fun task, for even the most fidgety of kids.

With 5 kids 6 and under, I’m all about quick and engaging, but often the message is lost in brevity. Natasha and Brianna do a fantastic job of keeping the truths simple and the pictures colorful, with so much to look at and hear, my kids were fascinated with each page and wanted to read the whole book in one sitting {we may have done just that quite a few times}. There’s even a fun little bug for kids to search for on each page!

If you’re looking for a beautifully illustrated book, that speaks of God’s love and truth to little ones, that won’t devolve into a session of telling kids to “sit still” and “pay attention”…this is the book for you!

A bigger look at the Christmas story - great for all ages!

I absolutely love this book. She was dead on when she said this was written for busy moms! Each day's story is just the right length to reflect the substance and richness of each part of the entire story of God sending Jesus for us but also short enough to hold my 3 year old's attention. I can't wait until she is older and we can expand each story by using the "learn more" section at the end of the book. I'm grateful Natasha took the time and care to put together a book that is beautiful, well written, and understandable by children and adults. I enjoy reading it as well and read it on my own first before reading it with my children, something I don't often do with things aimed at kids. It was a breath of fresh air into a story that I've seemingly heard hundreds of times...yet I loved having a fresh perspective and a bigger look at the entire story as God intended us to see Christmas as. Thanks for a great Christmas book!!!

Finding the little bugs was such a fun addition to each day's reading

This book exceeded my already high expectations. The simple stories speak to my own heart and interest my two year old at the same time! THe art is gorgeous and the words so filled with hope and joy--and the journey through the redemption story is exactly what I want to make the focus of our holidays. Finding the little bugs was such a fun addition to each day's reading. This book was definitely a winner in our house and one I am excited to share with family and friends.

Huge fan of Cheyenne and her first longer story did not disappoint.

I absolutely loved Cheyenne's first novella length story! I've read the majority of her short story work and I've always loved her stories and characters. So getting to read a longer work by Cheyenne was just too much awesome to pass up!

We are introduced to Nora, aka Never-Tied Nora (Nora doesn't do commitment). Pretty early on we are also introduced to the back-story arch which is how her Irish family (The Kelly's) is in a long time feud with another Irish family, the Flannery's, due to their grandparents basically pissing each other off and making the rest of the family down the generations hold on to the anger and animosity rather than moving on from it. I know some Irish folks and I'll just say that I've seen plenty of grudge holding and drama. Not that we don't all have that but I've definitely seen the differences between a full Irish family and non Irish. It's craziness and this story definitely showed that. Not only is there a lot of fiery drama, but there is also a fierceness in protecting and honoring your family, and upholding their values and putting them above all else.

I don't really want to say too much more for fear of spoiling the story for everyone but trust me when I say this is a wonderful read. There's romance, action, hot f/f sex, family drama, and no shortage of life lessons and realistic issues.

Highly recommended for readers of romance.

A Modern Juliet and Juliet

Never-Tied Nora is the Irish, lesbian version of Romeo and Juliet. Nora Kelly and Geraldine Flannery are two women in London from feuding Irish families who fall in love despite the fighting, despite Nora's player ways, and despite Geraldine's recent heartbreak. But unlike Romeo and Juliet, nobody is thirteen, nobody dies, and there might actually be a a chance for Nora and Ger. It's a fairy tale romance that's sickeningly sweet - in the best way possible if you're into cavity-inducing love stories. With so many angsty narratives, especially in queer romances, it's nice to read something so sappy from time to time. Nora and Geraldine's relationship develops quickly - or, rather, instantaneously - and while that along with some of the grandiose declarations of love they make for each other are a bit unrealistic, love stories don't always have to stick to the strict realm of believability. Nora and Geraldine's story is exactly what we all wish love was like, a force so strong it can change lives and prevail over any obstacle that tries to prevent it.

And while you'll be smiling at the love scenes, you'll be biting your lip at the /love/ scenes. The smut is nothing to bat your eyes at (especially chapter 11!), but it isn't overwhelming either. There's a delicate balance between the sex scenes and the main plot of the novel that favors the latter as it should. The steamy scenes are present enough, though, that they will definitely capture and keep your interest.

This is the love story of all love stories. No making the romance a subplot. No dark, gritty realism. No heart-crushing sadness. Just a whole lot of cute and a touch of hardship to make you sympathize with the characters and root for their relationship that much more. It's also a quick read, almost a novella rather than a novel, with a familiar, straight-forward plot line that is tried and true for the romance genre. If you're looking for a happy book to gush over that won't put you through intense emotional turmoil, Never-Tied Nora is the perfect fit.

This book has every piece of the star-crossed lover story line that you could want with the edition of a strong female narrator and her female lover. The writing is clear and although things happen very quickly for Nora (the narrator) and Geraldine you will still find yourself enjoying their love and its development. I appreciated Nora's humor and I felt that her emotional reactions, although very strong in many situations, helped to drive the story and keep the reader's interest.

I would have like to see a few things fleshed out more fully, but this book was enjoyable and the author kept me invested in what happened to these two women and their families.

Buy the author's "Mastering Exposure" instead

This is good and nothing inaccurate; but if you buy this book first and then later buy the author's book "Mastering Exposure"
you're gonna be surprising disappointed. What is included in this book is also included in the Mastering Exposure. So why
pay for the same info twice - buy the Mastering Exposure and you'll save yourself a buck and in this economy, even a nickle
makes a difference in our economy.

Well written

The author accomplished the goal that he outlined in initial paragraph. Although the focus of this book was understanding aperture and f stop, he also included a brief description of other things that I need to take into account and how settings are interrelated. Good read for anyone that wants to take better pictures.

Very easy to understand. Like the style of teaching of Al Judge. He doesn't throw in a lot of stuff to get you off track, and I actually know what he's talking about when he's done.

Theatre Works is recording worthy American plays. In this classic Simon comedy, David Paymer is the endearing hypochondriac Felix Unger,and Nathan Lane is his snappish, abrasive adversary Oscar Madison. An audience at this staged performance laughs with them and the supporting cast. Director Peter Levin paces their comic timing briskly. The sound is clear and close up, avoiding hollow stage acoustics, but the producer could have added value by filling the empty cassette side(s) with readings of scenes from another play by Simon. The Odd Couple is recommended for drama collections and for devotees of witty dialog.

The Original "Odd Couple"

Being a huge fan of "The Odd Couple" television series, I finally decided to read the play on which the TV show is based. THE ODD COUPLE, which premiered in 1965, was Neil Simon's first big success. His writing is consistently amusing and often flat-out hilarious; I laughed especially hard during the first scene, in which Oscar Madison and his poker-playing friends are trying to prevent Felix Unger, just thrown out of his home by his wife, from committing suicide! This "episode" was, of course, the starting point for the TV series, but unlike the show, the play has a single plot: Felix and Oscar get together, quarrel, date the Pigeon sisters, quarrel again, and ultimately "break up." Though the play is a comedy, there are interesting parallels to A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE in Oscar's poker games, particularly the one in the last scene during which Felix leaves. THE ODD COUPLE is an excellent example of Simon's wit. Next, I would love to see it onstage!

When you pair David Paymer and Nathan Lane as Felix and Oscar in the Odd Couple, you are in for a comic tour de force that over stretches its material. With a supporting cast which includes Dan Castellaneta and Yeardley Smith (both from The Simpsons) and Linda Purl, the cast is almost perfect. This production is a little too visual in a few of its jokes. However, on the whole, it unscrupulously grabs the audio listener by his ears and shakes him with laughter.

Classic American Comedy.

Before the movie, before the television series, before all the spin offs, there was just the play. The story is a classic spin on the buddy plot. Oscar Madison is a successful sports writer who happens to be best friends with Felix Unger, a newswriter for CBS. Each week Oscar has five of his buddies over for a Friday night game of poker. However, on one fateful night Felix fails to appear in time for the game. It turns out Felix has just been thrown out by his wife and has no place to go. Feeling sorry for his old friend, Oscar invites Felix to stay with him and be his roommate. What ensues is a classic Neil Simon look at friendship that will endure for ages.
