Pretty good resource for exercises

Conditioning for Combat Sports is are pretty good book. It goes into great detail about the many different types and ways to do exercises ranging from partner mat drills to weightlifting to agility drills. It does a great job of emphasizing what kind of training is appropriate for a combat athlete. The problem comes from its layout and the feel of "missing" information. The layout problem is simply that there is no index with the exercises in alphabetical order. There is a table of contents with exercises categorized by type and placement in the book, but no index. The second problem is that the book talks about how to develop strength and how to develop endurance, but treats these two separately. It gives good workout routines for both, but never how to work them together. The book tells you that it is important to have both of these, but doesn't give an example workout week of how to do general physical preparation.

I liked the book, it gave me a lot of great information, but I feel like I have to go elsewhere to figure out what to do with this information. Also, on an unrelated note, it is kind of weird how the photo on the front of this book is the same photo on the "300 workout" book. Who is that guy and where is the book that he wrote?

Great Workout Book

Follow along with this training and you WILL improve your health. GPP (general physical preparedness) is the base strength at which you can perform a task. So by increasing you GPP you improve you ability to other things like jiu jitsu, boxing, mma or even things like hike, bike or swim. GPP is why an MMA fighter can go through a training camp and come out much more inshape. Example St. Pierre trains all the time so his GPP is high but some fighters dont train in between fights like Quinton Jackson and those fighters struggle to make it 3 rounds. Following this book will help strengthen all areas of your body and burn fat/build muscle. I highly recomend this book. The only problem I have is that it has things like tire flips. Most people will not have a tire to flip or an area to do so. I just supplimented that exercise with a homemade sandbag exercise. But all in all this book is great for fitness and training.

Extremely informative

Anyone interested in conditioning should take a look at this book. It is filled with great examples and information you can use to improve your current conditioning regimen, create a new one, or take it to the next level. Rather than just advocate one type of training, there are examples of lots of different exercises--weights, bar bells, dumb bells, kettle bells, and some that defy description. Definitely a book you will be rereading as long as you train.

About the Author
Kathy Steinemann, Grandma Birdie to her grandkids, is an award-winning author who lives in the foothills on the Alberta side of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. She has loved words for as long as she can remember.

As a young child, she scribbled poems and stories. During the progression of her love affair with language, she won public-speaking and writing awards, and she contributed to her school newspaper. Then every Monday, rain or shine, she walked home instead of taking the bus so that she could deliver her latest column to the community weekly.

Her career has taken varying directions, including positions as editor of a small-town paper, computer-network administrator, and webmaster. She has also worked on projects in commercial art and cartooning.

A Strong and Varied Collection

"Envision: Future Fiction" has a little bit of everything. There are aliens and robots and dystopian possibilities. There is a little romance, a little warfare, possibilities of extinction and hope for survival. In short, all of the traditional ground of science fiction is covered handily. This is good news for fans of the genre who will know what to expect. The few surprises in this volume come from character driven action, either emotional heft or humor. I'll not summarize each story here. Suffice it to say this contains some solid sci-fi, nothing to offend the sensibilities of the fandom, but little to challenge established tropes either.
A striking aspect of this collection is that it's all good. I liked some stories more than others, but I didn't dislike any of them. I will single out "Salvation" by John Bryant for special recognition. One of the shorter pieces, this was my favorite.
Kathy Steinemann wrote the bulk of the book, but plenty of other authors contributed, making this a varied read and a good opportunity to discover new authors.

Kathy Steinemann's writing is always fantastic. I had the opportunity to read some of her writing while it was in process on Scribophile, and seeing the finished version -- with all the edges smoothed out -- is really great. (I was not incentivized in any way for this review!)

Enjoyable short stories.

Short stories are not my thing but I like the Kathy Steinemann's stories, short and long. My favorite short in this collection was the delightful Alien Irony. There are a few other author's in this collection. I have to admit I only read a few of those but liked most of them.

Each chapter discusses the history, activity, specificity, structural chemistry, preparation, and biological aspects of the enzyme.

About the Author
Xavier Calmet is a faculty member of the Theoretical Particle Physics Group at the University of Sussex. His current research interests span the interplay between particle physics and gravitational physics, grand unification, quantum gravity, physics of small black holes, the dark side of the universe (dark matter, dark energy) and information theory. He leads the working group on Quantum Black Holes that is part of the COST action: "Black Holes in a Violent Universe". Calmet is a founding editor of the Springer Briefs in Physics and a member of the editorial board of Foundations of Physics.

Lancaster was the former manager of the UK's Green Chemistry Network, and his book, Green chemistry: an introductory text, is a genuine introduction to the subject for undergraduate and postgraduate students, based as it is on clean chemical technology modules taught at the University of York. Much of the book should be understood by a general readership.

Starting from the 12 principles of green chemistry expounded by Paul Anastas in 1998, Lancaster, in a series of well written chapters, discusses such topics as waste minimisation, catalysis, solvents, environmental performance, renewable resources and alternative energy sources.

Lancaster's book is not just about green chemistry in the laboratory, but has several chapters on the industrial scene - developing greener technologies and processes as illustrated in a series of industrial case studies.'

About the Author
Mike Lancaster has more than 20 years experience in the chemical industry, mainly with BP in a variety of R&D and Business Management roles. He has spent the last 6 years with the Chemical Industries Association and has been heavily involved in developing and promoting the sustainable development agenda.
