Author support is amazing!

I cruised through the first seven chapters, but I got bogged down in the eighth. So I went to the author's Delphi forum and posted a couple of questions. Received four answers promptly, two by JL himself. And he even apologized (!) for being less than perfect.
Yeah, the book is intelligent, well organized, entertaining, blah blah...but who cares? With this kind of support from the author, you are just about guaranteed success.

Very well-written book!

I am most impressed with the examples in this book. The author clearly has a knack of weeding out irrelevancies that might cloud the issue. His examples deliver the main point of the subject matter quite adeptly. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn C#.
As a side note though, this book is not for readers who want to learn the advanced features of C#.

About the Author
Bruce Ballenger is the author of four books, including The Curious Researcher, a student guide to writing research papers, and Beyond Note Cards: Rethinking the Freshman Research Paper. His fifth book, forthcoming from Allyn & Bacon and coauthored with Michelle Payne, is Readings for the Curious Researcher. Bruce's articles and creative nonficiton have appeared in publications ranging from College English to the Boston Globe. He currently directs the writing program at Boise State University.

Michelle Payne is Assistant Professor of English at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, where she currently serves as Assistant Director of the Writing Program, trains teaching assistants, and teaches courses in writing, composition and rhetorical theory, and feminist theory. She has contributed essays and chapters to several publications, including The Bucknell Review, Taking Stock: The Writing Process Movement in the 90's (coedited by Lad Tobin and Thomas Newkirk), and Writing and Healing: Toward an Informed Practice (coedited by Charles Anderson and Marian MacCurdy).

The Curious Reader

I had to buy this for an English class, and the cover had me thinking it was going to be terrible. I was pleasantly surprised, however, as the essays inside were, for the most part, actually fairly interesting. I got it used for about 10 bucks, too, which is always a steal when it comes to textbooks.

The product is good, the class is boring as all get out, and I found that I really didn't need the book. Most of what it said was common knowledge. However most professors will require you to have this book, like mine did.

I needed this for my English class. It's cheap and affordable and it came quickly with prime shipping. There were no marks the cover was a bit warn out but in great conditions.

Great Book for Anyone...almost

I rented this book because it was required in the class I took with Dr. Poole and wish I had purchased it instead. So I am, and I'm also getting it for a relative with a background in American Studies. It is informative as to the place of the Devil specifically and of religion generally in America from its roots onward and encompasses history, politics, psychology, entertainment, and art. There are even sections on comic books, if that's your forte. The author, who writes simply with a touch of humor, makes little pretense on how he feels about the negative aspects of religion in America; so a reader might not want this if h/she is ultra-conservative and doesn't want his feathers ruffled. In other words, buy this if you are open to new ideas and slants, want to learn, be informed, and...perhaps...have your vision of America changed.

About the Author
Carl T. Dahlman earned degrees in sociology, music, and urban affairs before receiving his Ph.D. in geography from the University of Kentucky in 2001. He is the Director of the International Studies Program at Miami University, where his teaching focuses on political geography, migration and mobility, and globalization. His current research includes the role of European integration in the geopolitics of Southeastern Europe, and he has published a book on the subject, Bosnia Remade: Ethnic Cleansing and Its Reversal (Oxford University Press, with Gearóid Ó Tuathail). He is a co-author of Pearson’s Introduction to Contemporary Geography, with James M. Rubenstein and William H. Renwick. He enjoys photography and hunting for fossils with his son.

William H. Renwick earned a B.A. from Rhode Island College in 1973 and a Ph.D. in geography from Clark University in 1979. He has taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Rutgers University, and is currently Associate Professor of Geography at Miami University. A physical geographer with interests in geomorphology and environmental issues, his research focuses on impacts of land-use change on rivers and lakes, particularly in agricultural landscapes in the Midwest. He is a co-author of Pearson’s Introduction to Contemporary Geography, with James M. Rubenstein and Carl T. Dahlman. When time permits, he studies these environments from the seat of a wooden canoeboat. He is a co-author of Pearson’s Introduction to Contemporary Geography, with James M. Rubenstein and Carl T. A Good Textbook

This is a good textbook for an introduction to geography course. It is a thematic or systematic approach rather than a regional approach to the subject. It has good supporting materials for students, although Mastering Geography is not included in the cost of the text. It has excellent pictures for helping to make points and some good charts and diagrams. The paper is of slick quality and does give off glare when reading. It has some helpful materials that you can avail yourself of using your cell phone and scanning the code, although I am not sure how much a student would use this feature. The writing seems a little stiff and the text seems perhaps too factual and less student involving. Students may have more of a tendency to hunt and skip rather than fully read the text, or at least that is my impression. The end of chapter review is good. A somewhat unique alternative to look at is Introduction to Contemporary Geography by the same publisher. It offers some different possibilities.

Intro to Geography by Dahlman and Renwick is an excellent, current (late 2013) geography for college text/reference book. The visuals are beautifully reproduced and it is well-structured for learning.

I received this book in a really bad condition. It was missing the first section of the first chapter that I had to borrow someone's book to check my answers. Besides that, all the pages came apart every time I touched one. It made my life harder as I had to glue the pages in so I won't lose them.
